With beautiful ruins and a culture driven by Theravadean Buddhism, Laos is a great destination for travelers to Asia.
With two World Heritage sites, Luang Prabang and Wat Phou, there is much to see in Laos. The amazing temples and stunning scenery make Luang Prabang and Wat Phou a must for visitors to Laos. The government is also seeking World Heritage site status for the Plain of Jars.
One of the most historically rich cultural sites in Laos, the Plain of Jars contains thousands of stone jars spread out across the Xieng Khouang plain. These jars range in size from three to ten feet in height and weigh up to fourteen tons!
Dining is Laos is a true treat. The Lao cuisine is one of the best Southeast Asian cuisine; distinct from many other Asian countries. While sticky rice plays an important role in every meal, spicy mixtures of fish and meat with vegetables make Lao cuisine delicious.
With an abundance of culture, sites, cuisine, and scenery, Laos is the perfect destination for your next Asian vacation.
Morning City Highlights tour with your local guide.
Visit Wat Sisaket, the oldest original temple in Vientiane. Wat Sisaket features remarkable frescoes and over 6,000 Buddha images. Nearby Haw Phra Kaew was once the royal temple of Lao monarchy - the main structure originally housed the famous Emerald Buddha that now resides in Bangkok. One of the most photographed images of Vientiane is Patousay, the victory gate also known as Anousavari, with architecture inspired by the Arc d'Triumph in Paris. Another famous Vientiane landmark is the Phra That Luang stupa. This great sacred stupa, considered the national symbol, is said to contain relics of Lord Buddha.
