St Stephen was the first King of Hungary and on 20th August each year, Hungarians celebrate St. Stephen’s Day. It is Hungary’s national day and is celebrated with parades, folk singing, fairs and fireworks.
There is a dramatic display of fireworks over the Danube at 9 p.m which a tourist to Budapest should not miss. Hungarians also celebrate their constitution on this day and ceremoniously welcome the first new bread from the recent crop of July wheat. A sumptuous dinner is included in this tour. |
