City Guides » Philadelphia City

City Center
The downtown hub of metropolitan Philadelphia, Center City is the business, financial, and economic epicenter of the region. It is also a thriving residential area and the prime location in Philadelphia for entertainment, shopping, dining, and cultural activities.

Manayunk

Manayunk is a National Historic District located west of Center City. The neighborhood has over 70 restaurants, cafes, galleries, and unique boutiques.

Old City

The Old City neighborhood is located in the heart of Philadelphia's most historic district: where Benjamin Franklin once lived and worked, and the Declaration of Independence and our country's Constitution were written. Old City has more than 50 galleries, shops, theaters, restaurants, and museums and is an easy 10 minute walk from the downtown hotels.

Philadelphia

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was the first capital of the United States and the town where our nation first began. In 1776, the Declaration of Independence was written and signed in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania State House, as was the United States Constitution in 1787. Today the ""City of Brotherly Love"" is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the United States with people from many different cultures and backgrounds living and working together with a sense of community and civic pride.

Philadelphia Neighborhoods

The neighborhoods of Philadelphia are steeped in the history of our nation's birth -- from Old City's Liberty Bell in Independence Hall to the cobbled alley-ways and Philadelphia's oldest church, built in 1733, that are located in the Society Hill neighborhood.

Society Hill
Society Hill is mostly a residential neighborhood with fashionable homes, brick sidewalks and tree-lined streets. Society Hill has the largest number of 18th century homes in the United States.

South Philly
South Philly is a tight-knit multicultural community with immigrants from Italy and many other countries. It is a great place to find wonderful ethnic foods; especially authentic Philadelphia cheese steak sandwiches.

South Street
South Street is a happening place any time of day or night. An eclectic mix of nearly 300 retail businesses line the streets of South Street, from fine restaurants, art galleries, and bookstores, to tattoo and body-piercing parlors and fortune tellers.
