The highlights of the tour include:
- Admission to the Miami Seaquarium:This major Florida attraction is exciting and educational fun for the entire family, especially for children. One of the world's largest collections of marine animals, composed of some 10,000 specimens, its chief attractions include dolphins, killer whales and sea lions. Children will particularly enjoy the Swim With Our Dolphin programme.
- Admission to Parrot Jungle and Gardens:This garden features a large collection of parrots, Caribbean flamingos and other exotic birds in a subtropical jungle with orchids, flowering trees and shrubs. Kids can also enjoy a trained parrot show. See more than 200 parrots and macaws in the Manu Encounter, the world's only aviary replicating the clay cliffs of Manu, Peru. The Everglades Habitat recreates South Florida's unique "river of grass" and its wildlife. The park's huge collection of reptiles and amphibians, including an extremely rare albino alligator and a 21-foot crocodile, are housed in the Serpentarium. The magic of Parrot Jungle Island really comes alive at the 1,200-seat Parrot Bowl, where visitors delight in the park's world-famous bird shows, featuring the hilarious and amazing antics of trained parrots, cockatoos, and macaws.
- Miami Museum of Contemporary Art: Fairly new (it was established in 1996), MOCA boasts an impressive collection of internationally acclaimed art with a local flavour. It is also known for its ability to discover and highlight new artists. MoCA maintains an active exhibition schedule, presenting 8 to 10 exhibitions annually.
- Spanish Monastery Cloisters: The Spanish Monastery Cloisters were first erected in Segovia, Spain for St. Bernard de Clairvaux, an influential church figure. Centuries later, newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst purchased and brought them to America in pieces. The carefully numbered stones were quarantined for years until they were finally reassembled on the present site in 1954. It has often been used as a backdrop for weddings, movies and commercials and is a very popular tourist attraction.
- Self-guided Audio Walking Tour of the Art Deco Historic District: The streamlined buildings that comprise the Art Deco Historic District reflect the architecture of the '20s and '30s, when wealthy vacationers made Miami the resort destination of choice. The term Art Deco was coined by historian Bevis Hillier in 1968 to describe early 20th century modern design. Although Art Deco buildings can be found throughout Florida, no place is as synonymous with the style as South Miami Beach. Visit the Miami Design Preservation League's Welcome Centre on Ocean Drive. For a self-guided introduction to the Art Deco Historic District, pick up the League's new audio cassette tour, put on your favourite walking shoes or rollerblades (locals swear it's the best way to get around), grab the sun tan lotion and go!
