Meditation Camp At BrahmaKumaris, Mt. Abu
Travel Experience | Ricky | September 27, 2009 at 9:43 pmSo I am back all over again to move towards the path of enlightened living through deep knowledge of human values and soul, the teachings at International headquarters of Brahmakumaris, Mt. Abu. I was all excited since the time I heard about its meditation programs which are held through out the year. I was scheduled to aboard 3:00 pm Ranakpur Express train from Bandra Terminus, Bombay all the way to reach Mount Abu, a wonderful hill station in the morning 4:15 am the next day. Its just not about meditation that I was looking for, what made me really excited was the idea of learning Rajyog, which is one spiritual exercise of mind, body and soul taught here in groups.
As soon as I alighted the train, I could see Brahmakumaris (BK) bus waiting to take us on the top of the hill around 5,000 sq. ft above sea level where we were supposed to live for a 5 day camp. Entering the grand campus was an enriching experience, wider gates inviting us with clean concrete roadblocks and unique exotic varieties of flowerbeds laid on both the sites of the gate. The campus is spread over 5 acres of land with different buildings spread over the area including the residency, the meditation block, the dining hall, etc. I was really astonished to see the staying arrangement here, it was better than I had really expected. The building where we stayed was named “Vishnupuri”, which is God’s name in Indian mythological history. Other than that there were several other buildings for guests here.
The place is divided in to different zones like the main universal harmony hall, training section, electrical dept, meditation hall, cassette counter, dining halls, staying quarters, transport department, conference office, art gallery, literature department, baba’s room (baba – the godly figure who started the spiritual knowledge). The peace and serenity of the place gave me a thought of clear consciousness in my mind and made me aware about my whereabouts. I was really thrilled to experience something like this in our fast paced lifestyles. The cool breeze passing by and unique fragrance of flower varieties here made this place so holy and peaceful that you feel like living your whole life here.
The first day was supposed to be introductory session at universal harmony hall where I saw people from different parts of India had come to participate in a 5-day workshop. Our Dadiji (Grandmotherly figure, they are surrendered with BK for lifetime) gave us introduction for the purpose we were here and also what we were supposed to be doing all the 5 days here. People had come here in groups, and people at high position from IFFCO company and retired personnel were invited as chief guests here, they all lit the candle for opening up the ceremony and at the end of the lecture we stood in silence looking at the symbol of light and enriched ourselves for further knowledge we are going to get in the next few days.
After having a quick bath, we went to dining hall, which had 3 exclusive floors, the ground floor where cooking took place, the first floor of the building where BK people (who are surrendered with Brahmakumaris for lifetime) have their food and breakfast and the upper floor where the guests can have breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was tea, coffee, tea without sugar being served along with hot steaming upma (a dish made by ground rice powder) and curry to go with. After having the breakfast, we just lounged around the campus to see different zones and to get ourselves acquainted with the place. Soon in the afternoon, we could see ourselves sitting again in the dining hall for having our lunch, the food was nutritious and tasty, we felt hungry often here because of the clean, pollution free environment. Back to our rooms in the mid afternoon, we were just waiting to go for our evening meditation class to get going the other day. Evening, we spent our time in total isolation sitting in Baba’s room, I experienced so much of positive vibrations reaching my heart and I could here the inner calling for enlightened living. I was so very much excited about my journey here to this wonderful place. Evening after having a quick tea and snack, we were all sitting in the garden to look forward to meeting our Sister Pratibha (BK) who was in-charge of our group; she introduced us to each other and told about our further programs of the days to come.
Having a peace of mind is such an enlightening experience, I dint realize when the evening passed by and our dinner was waiting for us. We went early to sleep because tomorrow morning the meditation is going to start at 4:00 am and the whole day is packed with different kinds of activities. Looking forward for tomorrow’s enriching sessions.
